In this ongoing photographic series, I “transform” vacant commercial spaces into social services and institutions, encompassing both existing services and imagined ones. I physically hold up signage on-site, creating a clumsy illusion that I capture with the camera. The presence of my hand and the transparent supports ensure that this illusion is fleeting, prompting viewers to contemplate the implications of repurposing a small percentage of vacant commercial space to house our absent social safety net.
