The Terrorist Alert System is an ambiguous warning system that seemed to go to High Alert whenever George W. Bush’s poll ratings were dropping or there was negative press about the war in Iraq. This sign, based on the design of U.S. National Park fire danger signs, has been placed in public settings in Oakland and San Francisco to much confused, yet positive reaction. It has seven different colored inserts: FICTITIOUS, DECEPTIVE, PERIWINKLE, SUBJUGATING, EXAGGERATED, MANIPULATIVE, PINEAPPLE, and MISLEADING.
